  • Bookbyte Review

I sent my books to this company without reading reviews. It seemed to good to be true that they would buy my used text books that I paid $500 for. It was to good to be true. After over a month of waiting I haven't received any sort of payment, their website recommends that you send your textbooks in multiple boxes so that in case one gets "lost" you will at least get something. Well I don't think it was a coincidence that the cheap $5 book made it to them (yet still haven't received payment) and the other expensive books showed "delivered" then they just accidentally disappeared. They then had the gall to tell me it was my fault because I shipped them in multiple boxes which messed up the shipping process causing my expensive books to disappear. I'm certain someone else is enjoying my expensive textbooks right now because of this scam company. They also say once they receive the books they own them and you can't get them back period. So whoever has my medical textbooks right now your welcome I hope you get good use out of my donation. As for anybody reading this review I advise you to stay away from this company because they will steal from you.
They rejected over $80 of books in perfect condition. They effectively STOLE from me. I have ten years experience flipping books, so I'm not clueless when something is in a condition which might result in a rejection. I will never use them again, and I recommend other sellers to do the same unless they want to make a pricy donation to Bookbyte's profit margin.
On nov. 27th, I sent two books to this company for sale. If I knew this information about this company, I would have NEVER sent it. I'm pissed!
Like others have stated, they'll offer you a great price only to either. Or contact you or claim your book is fake. Worked with them before on a cheap order and they paid not problem(less that $15). Now this order was over $50. I shipped the book and provided the packing slip. I'm Waiting on a response and happen to check the tracking. It was delivered on August 29th. I checked the information this morning and low and behold it's rejected. I received no communication from them and now they don't want to give me my book back because it will be recycled( they are going to sell it and profit big freaking time on a book they stole from me). I think it's time to file a class action lawsuit against these scums. Give them a taste of their own medicine.
I sent a textbook in valued at $80, in good overall condition. I even spoke to someone via their chat function to make them aware that it had been used, and they advised the condition I described was fine. As soon as they had it I received a bizarre e-mail saying Bookbyte retained the right to shut down my account for any reason they wished, and that's what they had chosen to do. I contacted them, and they advised the book wasn't suitable for resale and they'd destroyed it. Eventually through formally complaining they gave me $20 as a gesture. I'm under no illusion that this book will now be sold on for $80+, and feel very silly for trusting them in the first place.
Scammers! Don't sell to them. They paid me the quote books for one of the books that I mailed them but claimed that there was cover damage to the other book. However the book didn't have a cover because it's loose leaf. Then once I brought that up they said that the cover wasn't damaged it was because I didn't include the cover page... it amazes me how quickly they can change their story. There was no damage to the book whatsoever, every single page was included with the book. After going back and forth through email they finally offered half of the quote price, $45 instead of the $90. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
Bookbyte is a thief! Please please stay away from them! I wish I could give them zero stars. They will offer the highest resale amount to lure people into selling back their books! Then they steal it from them. I sold them a brand new textbook worth over $150 I purchased from my college, order number is *******. And they sent me an email saying my book is fake. They are all thieves! You are better off sending your book to textbookrush or chegg. I have had no problems sending to them. Run away from these theives! Oh and when I asked them to provide proof of their evaluation, they did not provide any proof. I sold to a different company recently and they found water damage on one page of my book. They were kind enough to send me a picture showing the page, and they offered to ship my book back to me, or offer a lesser price. Bookbyte does not do this because they are all thieves! Please save yourself the trouble. Find another company to sell to. Tip for consumers:avoid this scam!! Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
DISHONEST company! The first time I had an issue with not being paid for books that I sent in, I accepted it and just assumed that I had made some kind of mistake, even though I am always extremely careful about my shipments. I didn't get paid for a set of books I had sent in. I kept using Bookbyte, but kept a very close eye on them. When it happened AGAIN, I decided to contact them about it. They claim that they didn't receive one of the books I sent them, even though I am 100 percent positive I sent it in a box of four books. They claim they only received 3 of the books. After reading other peoples' experiences, I now realize they are just a dishonest company. Beware!
My kids have rented from various online textbook rental companies over the years but this is by far the worst. Customer service is nearly impossible to reach and they will not help you over the phone. Live chat does not work and there is very little information available to you when there is a problem. When they refused a returned (used) textbook no explanation was given (in similar condition to when received) and they charge full price. Regardless of when or how this is resolved we will longer do business with them.
I tried selling my textbooks to BookByte for the first time. This is what I wrote in my complaint to the FTC: BookByte is a website that both sells and buys textbooks. I used their site to verify the value of 5 textbooks I wanted to sell. My total of quoted prices was supposed to be $107.25. I mailed my books within their delivery window and the condition of the books were good. I got a PayPal payment of $70 from Bookbyte. They no longer provide customer service over the phone, so I had to e-mail them asking why I did not get my full value, The person I was speaking to over e-mail is Rachel S., their Customer Service Lead. She said one of my textbooks, "Multinational Business Finance" is a *teacher's edition* and they cannot buy back this book. Disappointed, I asked for them to send that book back. She said it's their policy not to do that. I had no indication that my textbooks is a teacher's edition, nor can they prove it to me other than their word and that "they inspected it twice". I can sell that textbook to a few other providers, and they are taking it for free. We've exchanged several e-mails and I told them they're blatantly ripping me off and that I would file a complaint with the FTC. After several e-mails where Rachel implies it's my fault for not reading their policies thoroughly enough, her recent e-mail notified me she had a *supervisor* look over my case and they would give me a 50% value of the book as a *courtesy*. I don't know about their business as a seller of textbooks, but as a buyer, it's a slippery slope of dishonesty. Going back to my e-mail confirmation, they word my buyback as "quoted prices" which Rachel referred to as not the exact value they had to pay, which is subject to change. And the fact that they're keeping my property without giving me cash they told me I would be given once the books arrive is THEFT. I still have the original e-mail invoice of this textbook to prove my ownership. And not only did attempt to get away with keeping my book because of their company policy (which any company can establish and edit whenever they please) and not at all make an exception to give my book back (not even suggesting I pay them a delivery charge), but attempted to give me only HALF of what they promised to give me AS A COURTESY. They would argue those prices are subject to change and that I would be okay with that risk if I decide to do business with them--my takeaway. That's not a service, that's a bait-and-switch. They either need to start operating honestly or not at all. If I bought a book from them and I decided their copy (which I've never seen before until I get it) does not meet my standard, would it be fair for me to pay you the value I THINK it's worth by asking my credit company to cancel the charge and pay a fraction? No, that's not fair, right? Well, that's the kind of business Bookbyte is pulling. Did Bookbyte not pay you the value of your books and just kept it without even the option of returning it to you? File a complaint using the Complaint Assistant on the Federal Trade Commission web site. If there are enough complaints, justice will be served. Bookbyte--I hope the $42 was worth it. Tip for consumers:Don't. Service Value Quality
They basically stole $57 from me. I sold them a book that was essentially new; bought 4 months earlier, sat unused in its original packaging in bookshelf, looked gorgeous. I packed it carefully with plenty of padding, so it would not be damaged in transit. I check the status of the book a few days later and, with no email to me to let me know, the book was "damaged" and had been "rejected". Apparently the spine of this basically new, untouched, meticulously packed book was so out of shape the book could not be used. You're probably better off going to HalfPriced Books or LITERALLY anywhere else.
I have had average service from bookbyte in the past therefore decided to use them again. I sent them 3 books and the order has in "in process" for almost a month. They have my books and I still have no money. Will not use them again. I have tried to be patient and nice and have called several times and told them I did not want to leave negative feedback. However since they have not action taken I have no choice. Do not sell your books here!
They claimed that one of the two books I sold them was a fake. Of course it was the more expensive one. Their logic is that the university that gave us this book had fakes and we got screwed. Regardless I will be pressing charges since the original price of the book was over$150.
I rented 2 different books from this company over 2 years ago and that was the only time I really rented books from this company. I rented 2 different books but 1 copy from each and when I was done with my term at that time, I sent them both to them in the same box before the due date. I mailed the package on April, 2017 and soon after I sent The package, I received a confirmation that this company received my package which I believed that both books were inside. Unfortunately, about 2 months later, on June, 2017, I received an email said that my credit card account was charged for $324 for not returning one of the 2 books that I rented from them. I checked back with the post office and they confirmed that they received my package with my books and I tried to contact with them to let them know that they received their books at that time but could not find any phone number to reach them out. So, I just assumed that they tried to charge the money from my account before noticed that they received the books back. So since I could not contact with them and I had the proof that they received my package, I decided to cancel my credit card in order to avoid from paying the money for the book that I already sent to them. Since then, I did not receive any communication from them, until last month when I received a letter from a debt collection agent that said I owe this company $314 for the book that I believed that I returned over 2 years ago in the same package. Again, I tried hard to contact with them until I learned that they only have a live chat communication for their customers. I did not know exactly for which book I was charged for until I talked to one of their representatives named Rachel over their live chat. She confirmed that they received my package with the books but it had 2 copies of the same book which was the first book, and they did not receive the second book. I tried really hard to explain to them that I put the both books in the same package and sent it to them and their could have been a mistake made in their shipment department where the person who received my package could have made a mistake in scanning the books. He or She might scanned just one of the books twice and reported that to their system wrong And because of that their system is saying that I sent 2 copies of the first book, but did not send the other one. If you can see my concern logically, WHY on the earth I would find or purchase another same copy of the first book from somewhere else and put it with the other same book that I rented from their company and send them both to them and keep the other book for myself just in order to pay them $314 later? Logically, there can't be 2 copies of the first in the package that I sent to them because I did not order or buy any other book for that term and it was only this company that I rented those 2 different books and sent them back to them in the very same package. But they are not really willing to help me to figure out what really happened to the books that I sent to them over 2 years ago and explain me why I did not hear from them since June, 2017 when they tried to charge from my account $324 but suddenly received a collection letter just a month ago regarding to the book who knows how it was lost in their shipment department?! I believe that they were supposed to contact me right then, 2 years ago when they could not get money from my account and helped me out to resolve this concern and honored their service for their customers instead of keeping it quiet for over 2 years and send it to a collection company now. I am really disappointed for it and I tried to talk to their customer service agents but they seemed like not willing to help me. They said that my case is 2 years old and they can't help me with anything so I just need to contact with the collection company and pay off the bill. If I have received any communication from their billing department or the customer service team 2 years ago after I canceled my Credit card transaction, we could have worked it out back then instead of dealing with this now and being told by Rachel that my case is too old to retrieve any information regarding to my package. It is really sad that they kept it quiet from me for 2 years until my case was too old so they can't help me but get the money for their book from me by sending my account to collection company now! I sent an email to their *******@bookbyte.com email address and hopefully hear back from them soon since the collection company is giving me a due date by the 24th of May, 2019 to pay them off the money they are requesting for the book that I already sent to them. They need to check with their shipment department to see if there has been any mistake made in receiving my package 2 years ago. I am an honest person and I know that I put both books in that very same package and sent it to them 2 years ago. It is a big question WHY THE PERSON WHO RECEIVED MY PACKAGE RECORDED THAT I SENT 2 COPIES OF THE SAME BOOK INSTEAD OF 2 DIFFERENT BOOKS THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO SEND BACK TO THEIR COMPANY AND NOW WANT ME TO PAY $314? I REALLY DO HOPE THAT THEY CAN HELP ME TO resolve this concern because I really don't want to pay $314 for the book that I know that I already sent back to them 2 years ago. This money could be just a little money for their company but it is A month worth grocery money for my family since I am the only working adult Who needs to support my 3 little children. This is just so much money for my family. On the other hand, it is such a dishonest action that this company is claiming that they did received 2 copies of the same book but did not receive the other one and trying to charge me for $314 for something that I already sent to them. If this company still has left even a little bit of humanity and honesty, they should find out more if the person who received my package made a mistake accidentally 2 years ago and recorded about the Package wrong.
I sold bookbyte.com three text books that were all in excellent condition. They paid me for two of them, but stated that the third book was damaged and not salable, and that they would recycle it. I emailed them and requested that they return my book and that I would pay for return shipping, but they refuse to respond. This is what they do; lie and tell you your perfectly good book was received damaged and that they will recycle it, refuse to return it to you, then turnaround and resell it for a profit at your loss. Do not, I repeat, do not deal with this company. They are a scam and will rip you off. Run away as fast as you can. Deal with a reputable site, such as Amazon or Barnes and Noble, whom will return your books if they decide not to buy them, and the shipping is free. This company sucks!
10/10. Thank you for your online service. I have tried other alternative services but none of them even come close to yours
I have had only one experience with this company and it was god awful. I rented a textbook and although it did arrive quickly, their rental period did not reflect any normal semester. It would have cost 20 dollars more to keep for just a week longer, so I open for the shorter version. I got one e-mail reminding me that my rental was due that was sent extremely early. Finals had been stressing me so I was a few days late on my rental and when I went on the website to extend my rental fee, I was not given the option. (I have done this before with Amazon with amazing ease, but Bookbytes website is not user friendly whatsoever) I attempted to find a phone number and was unsuccessful. The online chat was disabled. I opted for my only other option which was the customer service email. Considering that is their ONLY form of communication, they take ~2 days to respond. Not very convenient when your rental is already late. The woman who was attempting to help me was extremely vague and so I just decided to let the company bill me the difference between the rental and the purchase price. I received an email several days later saying that I was, in fact, going to be charged the difference in price so that I could purchase the book. I though the issue was settled. 5 days later, and with no warning, I received a threatening email that they would report me to the IRS because my credit card used to rent the book was unable to get charged. I logged on to the website again to make a payment and there were no options to pay! I was not given a deadline as to when they would report me to the IRS, but was instead told that I had to call an 800 number provided in the email that same day to settle the debt. I received the email at 8:30 in the morning and attempted to call the number they provided to their collections department for 3 hours before I got an answer. I left a voicemail the first time I called and it was not returned. I have never written a bad review for any business, but this company has awful customer service and lack the basic necessities of an online business like a customer service telephone number and a more interactive website with payment options and a more detailed account history. The last email is what set me off. I found it unprofessional and extremely rude. Again, I was given no warning that the credit card on file was not working (a few months ago I got a new card and didn't realize the old card is what I used to pay my rental). And again, when I tried to go online to verify and see if they had the card I used on file, at least the type of card and the last 4 digits, that information was not available, and neither was a payment option. I can't believe this company is still doing business...
Will scam you out of your book and not pay you for it. Currently filing complaint with BBB Business Name: Rentu.com LLC Address: Salem, OR ******* Phone: *******500 According to another review site (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/BookByte) this is their typical MO, to reject the book and not pay you for it.
If there were an option for zero stars this is exactly what this website would receive. Never order a book on this website! Horrible customer service, only through via email which is ridiculous. Weird return policy. Does not provide shipping labels for returns (which you must pay for) which is weird because other websites usually offer a shipping label for returns. Overall bad website. Stay off of this website, there is plenty of other websites that are more worth while for example chegg, bookrenter, neebo, bigwords etc. I also received an instructors edition of the book which is not what I ordered and since I have to pay for shipping I don't even want to return the book but now I have to because you can not sell an instructors edition so that doesn't leave many options for me. First time customer and all I can say is that I'm disappointed in this company and will NEVER use it again. Thanks bookbyte for a horrible experience. Read reviews before purchasing anything online, because if I did I would have never ordered from bookbyte. They have all negative reviews for a good reason
I have sent several shipments to Bookbyte. Each time they claimed damages to books (such as highlighting, bent pages/corners, or written in) that were still sealed in the mylar/saran that new books are wrapped in. These books were brand new! One shipment they claimed to never have received so they never paid for it. However, the package was not returned to me and the post office reported it as having been delivered. I decided to try them one last time several weeks ago. I sent them a shipment of 14 books -- all in one box. They claimed to have received only 8 of the 14 books even though they were sent all in one box! Moreover, while other companies process my shipments within 48 to 72 hours, Bookbyte had my shipment for two weeks after delivery. Then they delayed payment (for only 8 books) for another 10 days. When I have called, the "customer service" people have been dismissive. Basically they will tell you too bad. I have seen numerous other similar complaints on various websites by bookbyte customers, so it is clear that this treatment is a company practice. Certainly they are making a lot of money off of customers by claiming damages and/or non-receipt of merchandise and then reaping undeserved profit off of those items. Please file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau if Bookbyte has treated you poorly. They have a very misleading A+ rating right now which needs to be remedied in order for them to engage in honest practices!
Got my books in record time. Thanks!
I found some cheap textbooks here and they ship out really fast! =)
