Sent multiple boxes using the shipping labels provided by ThredUp. They "lost" every single box, I had to fight for a very paltry repayment. They facilitate shipping but then claim that you're still responsible for your clothing until they buy it off you which is nonsense. There is no accountability. I wanted all clothing they rejected returned to me and instead they "lost" all of it. Can only imagine how much they steal if you opt to donate anything they "reject". Absolute trash. Recently they started charging nearly $20 to process a bag. The bags used to be free. You hardly make any money for mid range label clothing like Madewell, Banana Republic, etc. They then take most if not all your earnings in fees. At least you can claim your Goodwill donations on your taxes. You'll get far more money. Thredup started out great but has turned into a money grab site - beware.
Wonderful experience. Ships speady, packaged very elegant, very nice merchandise :)
In hopes of making a little money back, I send them good quality, never worn items, even with price tags. They show you how much they sell it for the profit ends up being less than 5% of the sale. They have a service fee of $14.99 that gets deducted from your earnings. The only way to get payout is through paypal. Do not use them if your purpose it to make money. They are only good for donations. I wish I knew this before I sent them my good quality items. You are better off selling your stuff privately. Service Value Shipping Quality
Absolutely horrific business practices now. Previously consigned with them years ago and had problems but nothing like this, you'd be lucky to make 5%-10% of your items worth. Please just go to your local consignment shop. It takes over a month for them to even look at your items and they no longer offer a way of reclaiming them if you've changed your mind. There are so many better options than them.
I have bought numerous times, never had issues this time no package no tracking 20 days pending. Reached out to customer service by email, they said they sent the package without tracking and to let them know with a designated date to respond if not received When I told them I did not receive they swore they sent. I believe they just never sent the package because when I told them I wanted my money they refunded with no package. Be careful. Tip for consumers:They have poor customer service and shipping Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
I used to quite a bit of clothes to thredup. I stopped for awhile because it was starting to not be worth it. It had been awhile so I thought I'd try again. Out of 5 bags, I have made more than their 15$ fee on like 3 of them and just barely over 15$. They accepted a lot but the pay out is so so so so low. I've also seen that they won't pay you anything for some mall brands even though they'll happily accept them. Don't even bother honestly. I was trying to make extra money but I'll probably end up having to pay them just to cover the high fees.
Aweful I sent in clothes all name brand over 20 items they list 1 I was in shock. I sell on other platforms like Mercari and eBay only name brand quality stuff that sells great. But time consuming listing so I gave this a try NEVER again I didn't understand that if you don't ask for your stuff back before they receive it you loose. How frustrating I could have made money on my items. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
Do NOT send your clothing to this company. They have so many fees, that even IF\WHEN your item sells, you'll never see the money (especially since they usually tell you your payout amount equals, like, $3). I sent in three boxes of brand name clothes, several sold, and I've yet to receive a single dollar. I feel SO ripped off and just pissed off. NEVER AGAIN. Ugh. Service Value Returns
I bought three handbags and two are great but one must have been owned by a smoker and reeks of smoke. I never thought of this as a potential problem in buying secondhand clothes online. I bought two dresses -- one is very nice but the other has what looks like ink or grease streaks on it.
I would not recommend Thred Up if you are looking to get money back from their sales I sent in approximately 75 dresses- Calvin Klein, White House Black Market, Michael Kors etc and received less than $50. They sold items for pennies. I guess read the fine lines. Better off finding another venue to sell or bag items and donate to local shelters or charities
Thredup is a scam! They kept all my designer dresses, claimed only one sold and claimed they kept the money for processing fees. They ignored my emails inquiring about my clothing or made any attempt to keep me informed. My clothing could have been given to a charity or someone in need not for their greedy and dishonest profit. They are Basically crooks. They've been reported to the Better Business Bureau. I've bought many of my clothes via ThredUp and was lucky to find some interesting items at good prices but after my last placed order I think I'm done. I often had to spend some considerable time trying to find what I like, I also had to make sure their measurements were accurate since I already knew some of the brands' sizing, and their description didn't match the usual size. They started to take quite a long time to ship my parcels. I thought I was buying an item in great condition to then find out the garment had some damage. Additionally, they charge a restock fee and many times the shipping costs didn't even match the package's weight and size. It takes a while to get your money back, by the way. I mean, once they get the returned parcel, they notify you and then you have to wait several days until the return is complete and your funds available, meaning that if you find something that you'd like to spend your credit on, you're unable to do so. If you choose to get reimbursed to your original payment, then that's an awful deal because it ends up being more expensive since you'll pay shipping plus restock fee. They sell items that are not returnable due to a big discount but they don't measure them properly. Some items are even sold without providing measurements, that is common to find with their jackets. If it doesn't fit, you'll end up returning. Oh and I forgot to mention they take pictures of heavily wrinkled garments intended to sell. Oh. And I forgot. I also requested a clean out closet kit, I shipped good stuff including a new, nice kids' pair of hiking boots but those never showed in the website's search. Only my least nice items appeared available. They probably take the best stuff and sell it somewhere else. Besides, many clothes are not just used but expensive and I know there's good, new stuff that can be found at similar costs. My fault, ladies, I should've raised my shopping standards loooong ago. But still I'm gonna have to spend some pending credit.
I have sent 3 bags over a 1 month period just to get my closet cleaned out. These clothes were all fairly new … the last bag contained an authentic Prada backpack purse. No record of it being in the bag … It is impossible to reach these people by phone The internet chat is a joke with palliative answers No one has ever called me back The Prada backpack was authentic… I believe it was taken for resale somewhere else. I will not use this company again. Beware of the scam! UPDATE… I finally did receive an email after I contacted the Media site. The email says they reserve the right to not accept any items. Yes. But the Prada is not even listed as not accepted. Theft? Yes in my opinion. Scam artists. Live and learn! Tip for consumers:Don’t. Use some local resale or check Google reviews first If I had done that, I would not have lost a $2500 purse. Products used:None… this was a resale online that they send a clean out bag to you… however, the items that are sent are not always noted… an authentic Prada backpack is not missing … can’t reach anyone .., no way to communicate Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
I sent a bag to their J.Crew always program. In that case, you're supposed to send either items made by J.Crew or similar brands. The bag was packed full. I could barely get it shut, and it contained mainly dresses from J.Crew, Ann Taylor and Michael Kors. All were in good condition. I could've sold them on Poshmark and probably made $15-$20 each based on other sales I've done. But I thought, why not give Thred Up a go? Oh my God, after waiting 3 to 4 months, I got an email the other day congratulating me on the $15 I made for the entire bag. I really wish I had not sent them my dresses. I feel so ripped off, and I think they are ripping off everyone who uses their site. As far as selling clothes. If you are in it just for the environmental/recycling reasons then I guess go for it. But you would probably be doing a better deed by donating to a Dress for Success program and not corporate greed. Tip for consumers:No Products used:NA
First, the measuring and listing they do is way off. Measurements were inaccurate, high waist pants were listed as "super low" etc. Second. You will only get a few pennies credit for what you send in. Third, the clothes you buy are REALLY used. "Mistake for new" is more like a "fair" condition. Overall, not worth the hassle.
Thought I'd try this place to resell some of my work clothes. They accepted all the pieces (6). Their policy is to give new purchasers a 45% discount, even on items they just received. (I would understand that policy IF the items hadn't sold in, say, a month, but not INSTANTLY!). Five of my items sold. I received a grand total of LESS THAN $12 for my five sold items. Even then, in order to actually get cash, there are service fees, further reducing my payout. I would have been better off donating them, and, in future I will! Tip for consumers:I don’t believe anything they say or do. They gave me the opportunity to reclaim one item that didn’t sell (for a fee — to get my own stuff back!). They still have it listed for sale on their website, so, apparently they are not donating our items after all (or at least not until they fail to manage to squeeze every last penny out of them). Products used:I was selling clothes, not purchasing them. Service Value Quality
I ordered 2 boxes clothes for kids for school. Everything was in good condition and matched pictured items. They came within week of ordering with was great! I will order from them again.
My ThredUp payout after selling 20+ items -- including quality brands like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, White Houes Black Market, and J. Crew -- was a whopping $1.56, and it took nearly half a YEAR for them to process these donations. (I won't call them sales, because it's essentially a donation.) You can see in the photos how much money these items were sold for versus how much I received in payout too. What a silly waste of my time and effort. I would have been better off just donating them to a women's shelter or taking them to a local Goodwill so that my donations could have at least helped someone in need rather than someone in greed. How is this business still a business? Products used:I used their consignment service for sellers.
I returned my entire box to Thred up on the final day given by the Company on 10/16/2020. On Sunday 10/25/2020 they charged me the full price of my box $256.90. I used their label! I have been e-mailing since Monday morning 10/26/2020 with no response! Nothing has been posted to my account! BUYER BEWARE! I went on Facebook and saw were another individual returned their products in JUNE and still has no resolution! This is a unacceptable way to do business!
I recently purchased 3 pairs of workout / leggings and 3 sweaters. The quality was great on all of them. And they fit really well, too, thanks to accurate sizing labels online. The only "complaint" in have is that instead of all coming in 1 package, they came in 3 separate mailings, which meant that there was more waste and postage than necessary. Nevertheless, i look forward to returning to thredUP for some future shopping needs.
The clothing that I purchased was in wonderful condition and when you receive your merchandise, ThredUp nicely wraps your items in their green polka dot tissue with their Logo Sticker. Nice presentation which makes you feel like you bought it at a Department Store in the good old days when they packaged your purchases at the store and made you feel like a Queen!
I sent 16 pieces of woman's clothing new, many never worn. Chico's, Talbots, LandsEnd so good quality clothing. Took three months to process. My payout was thirty-three cents. But I'm happy other ladies got some nice stuff at a great price. I've never bought anything from them so I can't speak about that. If they do indeed keep stuff out of landfills then it might be worth it. It's not like Poshmark where you can make a few bucks if you have time to do the listings. Value
I have used thredUP in the past and had good results. This last clean out bag I had several items that sold, some brand new with tags. I got several emails from thredUP telling me my payout amount, but my account balance never changed. When I asked about it, I was told that there was a " clean out fee ". That clean out fee was conveniently slightly more than my payout fee. There's another review on here stating " they steal clothes" and I completely agree. Thredup has lost my business. I will no longer sell, buy, or refer anyone to Thredup. Tip for consumers:Absolutely awful if you're trying to make money on your clothes that you no longer wear.
The sire ( Thredup), has decent finds, but make sure that you want the items! No turning back! I had to GOOGLE how to cancel the order I wanted to cancel because they're lil chat machine didn't find my VERY obvious order number. So I found the answer and after being screened with several answers by the lil robotic chat machine. I was able to email with a request for cancellation, hopefully they will "get the request in time." I do not like that type of hurry up and send before they can cancel type of business. UPDATE: They did cancel my order the same day... process still horrible IMO...
