They hold your money for over a month! I've called several times and they just hang up! This place is nothing but thieving scammers! The customer service reps are foreign. Customer service is not in place to help you and they are extremely rude. Trying to get your rental money is a full time job! They promise callbacks and never call. If they don't like what you're saying they just hang up. They just want your money!
Date of experience: December 2, 2024Prior to Expedia purchasing VRBO.com, it was an excellent place for vacation home owners and travelers to exchange. Expedia has ruined this company! I have removed all 3 of my homes from the VRBO platform, as the company is now run buy uneducated, barely understandable idiots. There is no escalation process, no accountability, no reason to trust your home to these incompetent children!
Tip for consumers:Do not trust your million dollar home to these incompetent, uneducated, outsourced children. You will regret it!

Date of experience: October 14, 2024We booked a place in Homosassa for the end of October. Due to the pending hurricane, we cancelled. Now, I had changed my bank account during the time of deposit for rental and cancellation, so VRBO now says they refunded my money to an account that's no longer active. The bank says they couldn't receive funds on a closed account. After several phone calls, I was dismissed, put on hold, told to call back in 48-72 hours. They have no intention of reimbursing the $282.62. The property owner sent an e-mail acknowledging the refund we did not receive. I guess VRBO is keeping that for themselves. The last person I spoke with was dismissive, kept saying "have a nice day" and hung up. I will never use VRBO again and would strongly suggest you steer clear of this company. I will give a one rating only because I can't give a 0. Poor customer service.

Date of experience: September 17, 2024As usual we always stay at Brett Robinson for the Shrimp Festival. This year we had to book through VRBO. The initial price of unit was around 2100 for 4 days. By the time I saw what my credit card was charged was 2965. This was outrageous. I have never before paid a price this outstanding for a condo or would. The communication with the host was kind of touch and go. Granted I thought she communicated that the room was ready and gave us the code to the room and gate. I was wrong. When we got into the room there were flies both dead and alive. Literally there were flyswatters in the pantry. Makes sense. Also, in the kitchen was an excessive number of gnats. We thought maybe there was food in the disposal etc. Once we went to the store, I purchased bug killer and gnat catcher. Notified the VRBO rep. Who stated she was not aware of this and will let housekeeping know when they clean next time. Also wanted pictures. Next, we wanted to be able to use our phones. Meaning we needed the Wi-Fi code. Usually there is a paper with the code on it etc. So, I called the 1-800 number for Brett Robinson who was so helpful and got us the Wi-Fi code. Being from the south we are huge football fans and were going to watch the games while getting ready. We needed an access code. Texted the Lacie again and she was not aware of an access code. I explained to her the TV is asking for a code for us to be able to access ROKU etc. By this time, I was done. We had no dishwashing soap, dishwasher detergent, wash cloths, or scrubber. Thankfully this isn't my first rodeo so I always bring extras. Lastly, our friends were in Unit 310, same building. Come to find out their condo was $1700. I
Am hoping somehow the owner of the property sees any of the complaints mentioned and realize that VRBO is a travesty. Any comments on a course of action would greatly be appreciated. I do have pictures, but I am unable to upload them.

Date of experience: October 17, 2024Although I have cancelled my booking well before my trip (9 months until the trip) I have still not been refunded the 100% as promised. Only refunded the 286.00 service fee, but now still waiting for the other 1500.00. I used to use this service as an owner and they are trying to tell me that the owner needs to refund the money, but I know from experience that they have the funds, not the owner. I will never use this service again.

VRBO still has not paid me for a rental of my lake house from TWO MONTHS AGO, and they simply keep passing the buck to the next lackey who does NOTHING. You can only talk with customer service in India, they can't and won't do anything, and no one from US support or billing or chat will ever respond to pay what they owe me. On top of this royal PITA, every month there's another "guest" scammer wanting to rent my place for 3 weeks, but needs to pay with a "company check"--there's no picture, and no history, yet when I notify "support" that its a scammer they do NOTHING. Date of experience: July 11, 2024We were told that our rented space in Edmonton, Alberta had a combination lock on the door but would have its combination changed with each new tenant. However, that was not true and it was double booked. Upon arrival, I opened the door to be confronted by an old man in his underwear standing in the living room We called the owner and he blamed Airbnb, which means he was using both booking agency to rent one space. We had a hard time getting our money back, as the VRBO representative was just as useless as the owner. Suggest that you buy a lock of your own and replace the door knob while you are renting or you too may find yourself having uninvited house guests. This service is nothing but a venue for slum lords. If a no star review was possible, that would be my selection. What I will never again select is this site. If I don't have a place to stay the next time I am in Edmonton, at least I can go to that space. The door combination lock is 9696 for anyone else with a similar issue.

They recently changed their terms without owner's agreement so that any requested reservation is automatically accepted, and if you cancel the reservation they insist that you pay around 12%. When I explained that I never agreed to these changes, they still insisted on payment and canceled my account which is fine because I will never use them again
In the past they also changed the rte on my rental unit without permission, sent incorrect 1099 tax forms, and would never correct any of it...
Date of experience: May 1, 2024This is a going issue. I am spending so much time contacting vacasa (booked through the Vrbo site and vacasa team is not answering). I talked with 4 different agents yesterday but they never responded. My coworkers are staying in the dark house still.
Below was my claim and sent them an email multiple times.
Please send someone ASAP to check and fix the problems.
These are the issues of the house: URGENT
1. Lights are not working - living room, room 1
2. Poor cleaning conditions -cockroaches, mold, too much hair on bedding, too many stains on the sofa, and all over the house.
3. The photos from the advertising are NOT true – deceived!
Tip for consumers:Do not book anything at vrbo. the house is a filthy place since it had not been cleaned and lights are not working and there are bugs on the floors..Still, No One comes to the site to clean and fix it.

Date of experience: April 23, 20230 stars, if I could! We will never book through VRBO again! They cannot be trusted with your family's vacation. We booked our July vacation in January with another family. A townhouse that we would share together. The property owner, Don, cancelled on us just weeks before our vacation. When I emailed him, he lied and said that VRBO cancelled on us, and he had no idea why. Our friends heard nothing from him until they got to the property for our vacation, the property was under construction! They got moved around twice before ending up in a hotel! I emailed the property owner and VRBO 3 times and never heard anything back, no help at all! Vacations are too precious, too expensive to trust VRBO with! We finally did find a home through Airbnb but paid much more due to the timing of everything. We will go through Airbnb from now on!

It was dirty to include poop still on the toilet bowl. We got out of there after about 20 minutes and immediately called VRBO customer service and lodged our complaint. We had to find alternative accommodations. We are still fighting with them for a refund! We will never use their service again.

This house was dirty. Bathroom basin was hanging off the wall. Grime in the tile grout around shower. Grime around the kitchen sink. Air conditioner blows hot air. Bed was new apparently, but so hard the floor would have been more comfortable.
Owner was nice enough man. He honestly believes the house was presentable to charge good money for a rental. He will not refund me at all. I have video of all my claims. I would not ever recommend this company.
Tip for consumers:Vrbo just fobbed us off. Owner would not refund our money. He feels his house is rental worthy.

Avoid them at all costs.
They host many non-existent accommodation places... you get there and it's just not there or abandoned.
They don't respond to email enquiries and if you try to call them you will find the line disconnected or switched off.
Even if the accomm IS there, it's often filthy or completely different to the description.
They don't remove or pause offending accommodation providers even after shocking reviews.
Go to someone else. Don't be part of the VRBO scam like me!

Date of experience: March 8, 2024Absolutely terrible company to work with. I am a host and I can't access payment from guests that have stayed at my property. I tried to update my bank details and received an error saying "We're sorry. Payments setup is temporarily unavailable. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue. Please try again later". This was well over a month ago. I have called customer support multiple times, and sent multiple emails and I keep getting told that they are working on it and to be patient. It has been over a MONTH and I cannot access nor withdraw booking payments. This is absolutely outrageous and completely out of order.

But, we are currently going 2 weeks with No Payment (owed thousands). Over seas call center keeps telling us to wait. No way to contact anyone on our own...
So, what's the answer? Keep hosting VRBO guests for free?
Tip for consumers:Don't use VRBO.
They have been going down hill since bought by Expedia.

Date of experience: August 2, 2023Glitches i get, but. E and the lively vrbo community nite that we spend between 3 to 14 hours every month just trouble hung their system.
The assistants always promise a call to an expert which in our collective experience havens about one kn three times.
All 13 of us have had to completely redo our profiles at minimum 3 and at most 9 times in a single tear.
These take hours to do.
They have a good front product but we hire them and we have capital investment at risk - they don't.
They just don't understand the hispitakitybbusiness from an investors point of view, which is their entire clientele
Date of experience: January 24, 2023I rented a house for 3 weeks. It smelled of mold and I began having asthma attacks. I had to leave the next day. No one would help. I paid $2300 for one night of lodging and had to pack up and go home. Not one cent of refund and VRBO will do nothing about lodging that is unsafe for people with respiratory problems.

It works for a few months and then the listing goes dark, photos revert back to old photos or part of the listing description vanishes.
This has been going on for several months. After over 20 calls and emails to their customer service and upper management nothing has changed. They just keep telling me it takes time. The service use to be great but now it is non existent.

Date of experience: February 11, 2023Prior to this negative experience, I've not used VRBO. I found a property I wanted to book, and sent in a legitimate Request to Book via vrbo.com. Supposed to hear back within 24 hours. Crickets. Then I checked the listing again and it was booked for two of the three days I wanted it. I called the 877# and they pretty much said their system arbitrarily cancelled my request with no notification and no reason. On Airbnb, I'm a five-star guest with a spotless credit rating, so it couldn't be that. Two long-wait phone calls to 877# and numerous exchanges with the host and still no resolution. Then I received an email stating that the case that VRBO opened for me was closed, and was I satisfied? Take the survey and let them know just how happy I am with the outcome! Insult to injury, VRBO Sucks! Please stay away and use Airbnb instead, I've never had a problem with them. Amen.

Date of experience: March 22, 2023BEWARE! Do not rent from this person titled - Luxury Pool Villa at this address. This property owner contacted me as soon as I booked a NON-REFUNDABLE house in Miami. He was trying to get more money out of me, asking if I had infants (that would be a $25 fee per person) or if I was going to have guests over ($499 gathering fee). I said no, I booked the house for how many people were in my reservation. He then offered to cut the fee to $299! Two days after we left the property, which we stayed at for one night, I had a charge of $199 for damaged furniture. Please see the picture below. They cannot even tell me what room that piece of furniture is in. I even told them that if I, or anyone in my party had damaged any piece of their property, I would gladly pay for it. But that! That, is not damaged furniture. I wonder how many others have been charged for this same piece of furniture?
Tip for consumers:Property owners reach out to you after booking a non-refundable stay and try to extort money out of you. When they don't get it, they charge you for damaged property, that is basically normal wear and tear and they can't prove you did it, because they don't have before and after pictures. Their damage policy that you sign in order to rent the place, apparently has a disclaimer that you can't dispute. BEWARE of fine print!

Date of experience: August 30, 2023From planning through departure at the end of our stay this has been an easy, pleasant experience.
The Overton Cottage and host could not have been any nicer. The views, quiet setting, privacy and sophisticated casual accommodations were worth every penny. The guest bedroom is separate from the master bedroom. Each had very nice bathrooms and plenty of towels. If you're looking for a quiet place with amazing views and no ambient lights, you just found it. The screened in back porch made for great relaxation watching the birds and the water. The Wi-Fi was not an issue. The Eastern Neck National Wildlife Reserve is just 1/2 mile south and Rock Hall is only about out 10 minutes north with shopping and restaurants. Our sailboat tour added to the experience and was very affordable with Captain Mark of Blue Crab Charters. We like to leave a place nicer than we found it. There was no way to do that. It was immaculate and very welcoming. Bravo to the owners.

" Place was great and everything was as promised. Very expensive though for a short stay, lots of fees racked up the cost. Also the trash rules were weird. Not sure why there is a $250 fee for cleaning if we have to clean up ourselves"
The review was rejected because I quoted prices and I was not allowed to edit even though they asked me too. It was beyond 14 days of arrival. They still send me emails to review.
