BEWAre! Terrible company. Will NEVER order from them again. Absolutely terrible. I ordered a $150 item from them on the 9th of December for my daughters Christmas gift. They Cancelled my order without notifying me whatsoever on the 15th. A WEEK later! No explanation, No Email, Nothing... Just cancelled. Now I have to Reorder Elsewhere a week before christmas. Pathetic. Date of experience: December 15, 2024
Millionare Club review: had the millionaire club for a year which went fine until renewal. I knew I signed up for the automatic renewal so that part was fine. What wasn't fine, was the fact they charged me two months in a row for said renewal. Obviously I did a credit card charge back on the second knowing it was a mistake. Fast forward a month for some Christmas shopping and the cashier can't find my membership. After showing my renewal email and credit charge they honored my 10% membership savings. But when I called the help line the next day, they said that they cancelled my membership since I did the charge back. Mind you, they charged my card TWICE, so I only charged back the duplicate charge. They said their records said it was an issue with my bank and to call them. Wouldn't help out whatsoever. So what did I do? I cancelled the original charge, got my refund and have now sworn off book-a-million for crappy customer service and an even crappier membership program. Everytime a new release titles comes out, they never have it but yet Barnes and Noble and Amazon have it day of release, would be nice if they concentrated more on books than the over priced junk toys they have there, will not renew my membership, why should I when I either have to buy for BN or Amazon? Ordered 3 books that were supposed to be in stock - 2 in transit and 1 label made after 5 days when delivery option said 3-5 days. Customer service inept, has a link to bam.com which is not their website! Unbelievable! Never again, but I got a gift certificate so had to use. Date of experience: December 30, 2022
Do not buy from this online bookstore. They changed my shipping fees at the last minute (after you click purchase they end up charging you double) and then they don't ship it in the time they say they would. When I received the book, it was damaged. The customer service is bad. They give you stock answers and don't address your issues. Of all my experiences buying books online, this was the absolute worst. Trust me, you will regret purchasing from this seller. I'm genuinely confused how this company is able to stay in business when their prices are 2x higher than their competitors! I bought a series and then quickly returned it when I discovered it's $40 cheaper through Amazon/Target/walmart etc. Listen, I'm all about supporting local/smaller businesses but good lord, even a normal book in the series is $7 more expensive than what I find elsewhere. Order the Pokémon booster pack for Christmas on 12/11/22 It was shipped on 12/15/22 and the item was returned back to sender 12/22/22 (Unknown reason & BAM doesn't know why it was sent back to sender either) They got the item back and did not process a refund. I reached out 1/17/23 and was told they need to confirm with the warehouse department (even though the tracking confirmation is proof) I still waited a week, no reply. Have to dispute with my bank. They stated on the website "Both USPS and UPS only hold tracking information for 120 days. We are not able to conduct a proper investigation after that point to take further action. We apologize for any inconvenience." Think they're just trying to drag it out so they don't have to do a refund and think they're the one that rerouted the package back to sender. First and last time ordering for them. Tip for consumers:Don’t expect an automatic refund. Must reach out/dispute immediately. Went to get early Christmas gifts…. Took awhile…. But finally filled counter with gifts to pay for…. Waited & waited…. Cashier sitting with friend talking…. I finally walked out and won't be going back! Date of experience: November 8, 2022
I ordered an IN STOCK book for my daughter's birthday. Was told it would ship out 24-48hrs. Finally get an email that it was shipped. I keep checking the tracking number and the book makes it to Ohio, but then for some reason is shipped all the way to Seattle Washington. Mind you the book was going to Michigan. Contact customer service and tell them about the issue and how my daughter's birthday has come an gone. As how do I return the book and was told unless it's damaged I'll have to pay a fee to return it. I will never buy another book from them due to their choice to use a bottom teir shipping company to save a few dollars. Date of experience: September 9, 2022
Bought an Eric Burdon and the Animals LP for $16 which had an "Anti-theft" sticker preventing me from seeing the record. I was told I if I opened it, I bought it. Took it home and played it. Very scratched, even after deep clean. Virtually unlistenable. Will never set foot in a Books a Million again. Date of experience: February 14, 2023
I have written and called about an order I placed June of 2021 and still have not gotten the book. It is listed as pending and they said that they can't cancel an order that is pending. I became a member hoping to get better service but that is not the case. I will not be renewing my membership with them. Date of experience: October 30, 2022
I took 20 used, good as new books in to sell. They picked 11 (mostly hardback Stephen King books) and wanted to give me $8.00 for them. Not even a dollar each. I'd rather give them to goodwill to sell. Barnes and Noble for me now to buy books. Service Value Quality Date of experience: February 13, 2023
My local BAM downsized the magazine rack to a 1/5th of what it had been. They got rid of all the magazines I would have looked at. They also got rid of their cafe. Meanwhile their selection of computer books has dropped to virtually none. Their selection of non book stock has surged, leading me to wonder whether it wants to become a toystore. I don't get to a bookstore very often but this visit just tells me that BAM is not far from going under. I ordered 2 books, 1 was a preorder. The 1 at book "shipped". The tracking # showed it never left the warehouse. Took 4 weeks to get a refund! Then they just canceled the preorder without telling me. What a joke of a company. Products used:None. See review Service Value Shipping Date of experience: May 6, 2023
Ordered 5 books, received only 3. Still charged for all 5. I have been asked customer 'support' for assistance in 5 separate messages: not one response. Took my money, failed to deliver, failed to respond. This was my first and last experience with these crooks. Tip for consumers:Don't buy from this site. Products used:Ordered 5 books. Received 3 but 2 never arrived, and no tracking info provided. Still charged for the books that never arrived. I contacted customer service 5 times and received no reply. Bought a digital book. Their version works best with Adobe Digital edition, which you have to log into with your BAM account. But it doesn't matter. File won't download on my iPhone and will download but not open on my laptop. $15 wasted and I'm sure I won't get a refund - should have gone to B & N. For someone like me (disabled) who can't drive particularly far, having the membership is fantastic. The fact that they use actual boxes is a far cry better than Amazon! I've recently done a comparison and most times they're actually cheaper than Prime. Bravo! Keep up the good work, and you'll keep a customer for life. Ordered for 160ish pre xmas as a back-order. They cancelled 2 months later and re-listed the item at $214.99. What a horrible company. Also, any emails you send or customer service response takes them an entire month. It doesn't take a month to reply to an email. Never using this garbage site again. Purchase 2 x 1 out of 50 made comics. Kind or rare. Receive them in a soft bubble envelop with two smaller pieces of cardboard. As such they had edges dented which massively decreases the value. To top it off the $3.99 had a $15 price tag on it that they were selling to me at $20. A copy of the same comic is now selling on eBay for $75. Their response was, 10% discount or return for full refund. They would not even. Then they shut me down once I asked for the next supervisor. Date of experience: August 2, 2017
BAM renewed my book club membership for $25 without my authorization. They're refunding the charge, but I have to wait 1-3 days for the refund money to hit my bank account. Why is that? They certainly leapt to remove the money -- why is there a delay in getting it back to me? In the interim I'll get an overdraft since payday isn't until Wednesday and funds were very low. Thanks for nothing, BAM. The book club membership was a total waste of money, and now your corporate greed and trick to bilk customers will cost me another $35 at the bank. I will never shop here again. Date of experience: September 20, 2016
I ordered a calendar December 6,2020. It is December 19,2020 and the item is still not here. The tracking link on their order confirmation does not work. I called Customer Service and they are blaming USPS, saying it takes 14-15 business days to receive an order because USPS is backed up. Very strange - other online orders I placed this year arrived timely or with only a slight delay. Certainly not 14-15 days! What is their game? I will never order from them again. Bought into the event thinking I would receive a signed book. Book arrived not signed. Wondering why I would pay $35 for a book they are selling for $20. Disappointed and dissatisfied with customer service response. BAM will never get my business again. Anyone else thought they were buying a signed book? Was excited to see they had a Hardcover version of a certain book that I was looking for, order 3 of them immediately since I knew it is something that would sell quickly. Then was seriously disappointed when I received 3 very cheap Paperback covers of that same book. Made sure to try to contact Help and see if they could send me what I ordered. If I could give 0 stars I would, 1 is too many. I got the run around and they found it outrageous that I expect to get what I ordered and that I didn't want to run around during my limited time off to jump through hoops to get what I ordered online. Then they made me feel like I was trying to scam them out of 3 crappy paperbacks and refused to do exactly what they were expecting me to do, to fix their mistake. Long story short after spending thousands of dollars, yes thousands, on books from Books A Million I will no longer be spending my money here. And from the other reviews here I can see that this will be another book store that slowly fades away. Tip for consumers:Be careful with what you buy online this feels like they have this policy because they try to scam people out of more money to get what they ordered in the first place. Products used:They still have not sent what I ordered and continue to refuse to do so. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality Date of experience: January 26, 2024
BAM is a discounter. They sell markdowns, offloads et cet. From major chains(Oh, are there any left!). I generally don't do too much business with this company, but when I have never had a problem. They're mainly heavy on fiction and bios. They do have good deals, frequently. There shipping is fair, and they do notify of any delays, or problems with delivery. Frankly, I prefer other companies, but will occasionally purchase books from them Date of experience: May 29, 2012
Books A Million is a good bookseller. The books they sell seem to be more on the "used" side for being sold as "New". The stores allow customers to handle the books and even start reading them before purchasing, which i presume is the cause of some of the books looking a bit tattered. The selections in store is good, but not great. The store is heavy on fiction, sci-fi and biographys. The store is not very balanced. Having one shelf labeled "religion" and 2 or three rows of shelves for christian reading. Being from an are with a large "free thinking" population, you would think they would tailor the selection based on what the majority of customers want (Or at least even out the selection). Books a million has a very odd returns policy. Considering they sell books that are not always pristine, they have a strict return policy. Sometimes they wont accept a return because of the books condition. I find this funny because they didnt have a problem selling it to me like that. Considering there are no other book sellers within 50 miles of my home, i dont have much choice unless i want to solely buy books online. Before the e-reader craze started and booksellers started to go under, Borders books also occupied the same shopping center. How BAM survived and Borders didnt dumbfounds me. I would rather have Borders, but books a million is fine too. Service Value Returns Quality Date of experience: September 13, 2015
