BEST website builder! If I can do it... anyone can! - Homestead.com is an awesome website builder. It was so much fun that I didn't want to quit working on it... plus their tech support is amazing. I'd been ripped off by different web site providers for years, and finally got fed up and decided to build my own. I had zero experience or training but a friend recommended Homestead so I tried it. I have had no problems or regrets. Wish all of life was this easy and reliable!
Date of experience: February 18, 2009Probably 10 to 15 years ago I designed a website using Homestead technologies. I never published it. I got in touch with them recently to see about publishing it and when they told me they own the rights to my corporate name I told them cancel everything I'll do business with someone else and I hung up. Well it turns out they just attempted to put charges on my credit card from like 15 years ago thank heavens the credit card has been canceled since then. I gave nobody permission for any charges. I gave nobody permission for anything there. I told them to cancel the account in Tech support. Of course tech support and every other support is offshore. Because Homestead technology doesn't like America enough to hire its people! You've been fair warned. You will suffer. Stay far away!

Date of experience: June 27, 2023Homestead's business practices are despicable. NEVER reserve a domain name through them. I am a developer and wanted to move a domain name to another hosting company. They are making it impossible and wasting hours of my time. Their compliance team refuses to send any real information about the status of my request. Instead, every email from them is exactly the same... an extremely complicated and misleading explanation of their process. I send in the information that it seems like they are requesting and just get the same response back. So I call customer service who regurgitate the same message and then say that they can't control what the compliance department does because they are a different department! I can't talk to anyone in the compliance department and they will not respond to emails with actual information like, I received your documentation... it is satisfactory... or I need this as well. Nothing! They are scam artists.

To no avail, debit card has continued to be charged at almost $40.00 a month. My business has been closed for 3 years at this point. Supposedly, it has been handled and closed... Horrible!
Date of experience: February 19, 2020We attempted to cancel. They gave us a run around and would not cancel. They told us that we had to put a stop payment through the bank. We just learned that they are now attempting to bill us by changing the name they use. This is not only bad service. This is unethical. Highly recommend not to use them.
Date of experience: February 16, 2019I have been a customer of Homestead website builder for 12 years. Their product served me well for many years. However, in recent years, I have noticed a dramatic decrease in product quality and the service rendered at Homestead. I am also a user of WordPress.org. Through 1&1 for another website. As an example of the frustration I routinely experience with Homestead, it sometimes takes 15 minutes to simple edit a sentence on Homestead due to their poor quality of product, extremely slow speeds and frequent disconnects. I do not experience these problems with WordPress.org through 1&1. The website I administrate on Homestead is related to football. As soon as the football season concludes, I will be switching my Homestead account to WordPress.org through 1&1.
Date of experience: October 10, 2015On a scale of 1 to 10... 1 being the lowest ranking... www.homestead.com is a 1. The web site is down most of the time. I paid good money to establist a web site with this company and I can't even access my account a day later because Homestead is having some difficulties. I plan to request a refund.
Date of experience: October 14, 2009I canceled my account 3 yrs ago and they still charged my account in 2023. I disputed the amount and now they say I don't have an account and they didn't charge me. Explain the 247.40 charged to my credit card? Reported as fraud.

Date of experience: April 12, 2023I have used Homesteads basic service for 3 years where I built my own website and they hosted and it was OK, although they did nothing to promote my placement. IncJanuary 2018, I signed up for their deluxe service to make my website mobile friendly and promote placement to the first page at a cost of $380 a month. They redesigned the whole site. It is now May and the site just went live and it has been a disaster from start to finish. Their web designers do not know what they are doing and do not listen to your requests. Something as simple as being able to call my office by clicking on the phone number doesnt work and the link for new customer inquiries is also dead. The formatting does not fit on the page, they lost vital information from my original site, including my customer reviews. It is a mess. I am ready to put in a BBB complaint to get my money back.
Date of experience: May 3, 2018My email has been arriving in the Junk mail folder and Homestead Technologies has not been able to fix it for over a MONTH. They tried blaming me and my device setup for the problem and told me to delete the mailbox from all my devices. That failed to solve the problem and my emails continued to arrive in the junk mail folder on the Homestead server. Then they told me to delete the mailbox from all my devices AND on the Homestead (Roundcube) server... and after following their instructions I lost over six years of my email. The ineptitude of Tech Support is astonishing. There are at least five "Help Tickets" open in the Homestead's "Advanced Team" department and nobody seems to know what to do. I have called for help at least ten times, nobody ever checks my account history, I always have to start from scratch and they all script me over and over and over but do not solve the problem. My advice is stay with GoDaddy.

Date of experience: September 29, 2022Don't even know where to start. It seems like this company is a ghost zombie company and no longer in business, yet they have continued to bill me for over a year for accounts that I closed. The website showed all of my accounts were closed but had an intentional glitch to prevent the last account from getting deleted, thus keeping your account open so they can keep billing you.
Normally, you could just contact customer service - however it is darn near impossible to find a "contact us" that doesn't route you to a forum to ask other customers for help -_- and then when you find the contact form to enter a complaint. THAT GLITCHES TOO! And no one answer the phone when you call.
I finally had to contact my bank but they could only get me back 3 months of the charges (they owe me over 15 months!@ about $34 a month). This review is mostly in case there is ever a class-action lawsuit against them to show that there is a history of this practice with them (I have read that intuit companies have used these accidental glitches (*intentional) in some of their other products). This web builder product is TERRIBLE and I am pretty sure it's all on purpose.
Tip for consumers:Use a wordpress site builder instead. This company is terrible and their product is outdates (google and search engines prefer wordpress anyway). This product hasn't been updated in almost 10 years

Date of experience: July 25, 2009I read the other reviews. I strongly dislike this company. (a division of intuit) They make you pay the entire fee upfront... almost $1200. 00. They start the countdown of your year of hosting the day you sign-not the day you are up and running. They take FOREVER -if at all to get back to you with answers to questions. Sometimes they get back to you-totally ignoring the questions. Customer service is non-existant. For the fee collected some service is expected. They set-up your store front the way they want it, when they have provided 3 set-ups; ignoring what you say you want it to look like they tell you there is an additional charge for more services. Plus, even though your account has been paid in full they refuse to destroy your credit card information, They want to hold on to it to bill your account when the hosting fee is due for renewal-without asking you if you want to continue your service with them. I think its fraudulent and illegal. If they bill my card I will report to my card issuer the charge was not authorized by me.
I was looking to get my site up... they guy I spoke with told me if I signed right then it would be up & running for Christmas... that was in October, here we are in February and its still not up. I thought I was going to save money by going to them. Now its going to cost me double to go to a real web-site creator... a professional!
I hear their ads on the radio and cringe. I feel they pray on people who don't have the know how like myself with promises that are quickly forgotten once they have gotten your money.
For those of you that love them, I can't see it. If you were helped you are an exception, a family member, friend of an employee or someone who paid more for service. I am with the reviewer that gave them the lowest possible ranking... no I rank them lower it's called ZERO! They don't make the scale.
